After getting all that swords ‘n’ sorcery stuff out of their systems with the Witcher series, the people over at CD Projekt Red are getting their neural implants on with Cyberpunk, a game based on the original pen and paper RPG from the 80s.<\/p>\n
In a new Q&A posted over on the studio’s site, community manager Marcin Momot revealed that the game is inspired by a what’s-what of classic cyberpunk books, films, and games.<\/p>\n
“Aside from the obvious ones like the works of William Gibson or the Blade Runner movie, we also take from the first Ghost in the Shell, both anime and manga,” he said. “We\u2019re also looking up to System Shock because of its interesting approach to gameplay. The first part of Deus Ex is also a very important source of inspiration to us.”<\/p>\n
Of course, it’s probably impossible to make a cyberpunk anything<\/em> without using William Gibson and Blade Runner as references, but it’s good to know CD Projekt is doing this thing properly. Now I’m just waiting to hear that Richard Morgan is writing the game’s story. Please let Richard Morgan be writing the story.<\/p>\n Momot also mentioned that the game will give players “way more freedom” in terms of character customisation than the Witcher.<\/p>\n “In Cyberpunk, each character role will offer a set of special skills that will impact your stats in many different ways,” he explained. “That\u2019s where the challenge kicks in, we want to create a game where character customisation will be strongly tied with the plot.
