Since the game was first announced more than three years ago, it’s like Thief 4 has simply ducked into some dark corner and hidden there out of all sight, conspicuously inconspicuous. According to rumour on the street though, that’s because the game is now in development for next-gen consoles.<\/p>\n
The news comes via the latest copy of Official Xbox Magazine, which claims that the elusive game will slip out of the shadows alongside the next-gen Xbox late next year, with or without the aid of mossy arrows.<\/p>\n
Thief 4 – or the more trendy Thi4f, as Eidos wants us to call it, even though “4” is generally understood to be the letter “a”, making that “Thiaf” instead – was unveiled on 11 May 2009, and was already then supposed to have been in development at Eidos Montreal, the same studio responsible for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.<\/p>\n
Back in May, the company was hiring up for a next-gen console project based on “an existing IP that is a well known and respected action\/adventure title”, featuring “player choice” and “stealth”. The internet assumed, of course, that this would be the next Deus Ex game, but… maybe not.<\/p>\n
Nobody important is saying anything about it for the moment, so no change there.<\/p>\n
The last game in the series, Thief: Deadly Shadows, was launched back in 2004, putting this sequel at around eight years overdue already. Eidos Montreal should clearly be adding a chief whip cracker to its staff vacancies.<\/p>\n
