IGN <\/a>recently spoke to EA’s senior e-commerce analytics manager Rommy Ghaly, who revealed that the development team is keeping a close eye on how and when gamers are playing what they are purchasing in the game.<\/p>\nSome interesting figures came out of the interview. Apparently the ‘Play now’ button which launches the game has been clicked 40 million times since launch. The game gives the player the option of playing as the Commando, the Soldier and the Gunner. The Commando has been the most popular choice with 40-percent of gamers electing to go the stealthy route. The Soldier is used by 37-percent of players and the Gunner is used by 23-percent.<\/p>\n
The balance between the two factions was also very close, with 50.4-percent of players choosing the German-like Nationals, and 49.6-percent of players going with the British-themed Royals.<\/p>\n
Ghaly told IGN that Battlefield Heroes currently has around 1.5 million users and that they are spread across 133 countries.<\/p>\n
Ghaly went on to announce that players have spent an average of $20 each on in-game items. This equates to $30 million, which does not seem like a terrible figure for a first month. The most commonly purchased in-game items are the vanity items, with 76-percent of ‘Battlefunds’ spent on customized outfits and accessories. The most purchased items are the Kommendant’s Coat, the Special Forces Officer Cap, Maverik’s Sunglasses, the Elite Camo Trousers and the Marksman’s Honor<\/p>\n
Players can also purchase ‘Advancement widgets’, with the most popular widget being the ‘30-day XP boost’ which increases the speed at which players advance.<\/p>\n
On top of the income earned from in-game transactions, Battlefield Heroes also earns cash from server rentals which effectively allow companies access to in-game advertising.<\/p>\n
It would seem then that the financial outlook for Battlefield Heroes is good, with over $30 million already taken the game can only grow from here.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately with not current local servers due to the manner in which server hosting is attached to advertising, it remains unclear whether South African’s will ever gain access to Battlefield Heroes.<\/p>\n
