After being revealed as a free-to-play title at Gamescom, the upcoming Command & Conquer Generals 2 won\u2019t be featuring any single-player campaign, according to Bioware Victory general manager John Van Caneghem.<\/p>\n

“Co-operative and competitive” skirmishes online will instead be the focus of the game, said Van Caneghem.<\/p>\n

Van Caneghem continued that the reason for the decision is to “get back to the roots of what made Command & Conquer great.”<\/p>\n

The new model for the series allows for the developers to experiment with the way the game functions and evolves, explained Van Caneghem.<\/p>\n

“As a live service I think the exciting part is you can try things,” he said. “You can see what the community wants, you can give it a shot, you can put it up for a weekend and see how it goes, develop towards what the fans like.”<\/p>\n

A single-player campaign is something that could happen, but the studio GM said that “it is something we haven’t announced yet how we’re going to do it.”<\/p>\n

Command & Conquer Generals 2 is set for release in 2013, but you can sign up for the beta<\/a> in the meantime.<\/p>\n
