{"id":43631,"date":"2012-08-24T11:10:18","date_gmt":"2012-08-24T09:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=43631"},"modified":"2012-08-24T17:12:41","modified_gmt":"2012-08-24T15:12:41","slug":"i-am-alive-is-heading-to-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/43631-i-am-alive-is-heading-to-pc","title":{"rendered":"I Am Alive is heading to PC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ubisoft has announced its&#8217; bringing the survival-action game I Am Alive to PC.<\/p>\n<p>After releasing for\u00a0Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, I Am Alive will launch for PC on 13 September 2012, and will set you back \u00a311.99 (R160) from Ubishop, Steam and other digital retailers.<\/p>\n<p>The PC version includes high resolution graphics and two new modes: Easy Mode and Replay Mode. Easy mode allows infinite retries and a &#8220;smoother introduction.&#8221; Replay mode allows players to replay any level to uncover more secrets and hidden objects.<\/p>\n<p>The game takes place one year after something called \u201cthe event\u201d, which really is the single worst name for a cataclysmic event, ever. Anyway, the Event pretty much destroys everything, wiping out human civilization as we know it. What remains is a desolated city and some scary stuff going on in it. You play a man who is struggling to find his daughter and wife among the ruins.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/xbox\/33751-i-am-alive-review-roundup.html  \" target=\"_blank\">Most critics were impressed<\/a> at Ubisoft\u2019s post-catastrophe adventure game, despite the odd gripe.<\/p>\n<p>This is an interesting turn of events, as Ubisoft had previously panned the idea of releasing I Am Alive for PC due to high piracy levels on the platform. More recently, Ubisoft was lamenting that PC piracy rates were over 90%, saying that free-to-play was the way to go on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully Ubisoft has learnt from the From Dust PC DRM debacle, which saw legitimate customers blocked out from the game for which they paid, while filthy pirates were playing it with no problems.<\/p>\n<p>A lesson in the futility of draconian DRM?
