Bayonetta was a big hit with gamers and critics alike, but the PS3 version of the game wasn’t a big hit with the original developers, Platinum Games.<\/p>\n
According to an interview with Edge, the game was handed over to a second in-house developer at Sega, and the port subsequently suffered framerate and control problems. Although most of these issues were fixed up with patches, Platinum considers the whole thing a bust.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe biggest failure for Platinum so far, the one that really sticks in my mind, is that port,\u201d Platinum Games director Atsushi Inaba said. \u201cAt the time we didn\u2019t really know how to develop on PS3 all that well, and whether we could have done it\u2026 is irrelevant: we made the decision that we couldn\u2019t. But looking back on the result, and especially what ended up being released to users, I regard that as our biggest failure.\u201d<\/p>\n
The important part about messing something up, however, is that it’s an opportunity to learn from it, and not make the same mistakes again in the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne thing I will say is that it wasn\u2019t a failure for nothing,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe learned that we needed to take responsibility for everything. So on Vanquish we developed both versions in-house. We learned, so it wasn\u2019t a pointless failure, but it was a failure nonetheless.”<\/p>\n
