Market research company Gfk has released its August 2012 sales stats for the SA physical retail gaming market, detailing the top five selling games across various platforms.<\/p>\n

On PC, despite releasing late in the month on 28 August, it’s not surprising to see Guild Wars 2 take top honours. Battlefield 3, the Sims 3 and various Sims 3 expansions continue to jostle for position. Diablo III has now fallen from the top 5 list.<\/p>\n

August had a few notable releases: Guild Wars 2, Darksiders 2, and Sleeping Dogs. It’s interesting the see the latter two titles did not crack the top 5 on any platform. Having released in the second half of the month, their sales performance may pick up in September.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, consoles bundled with games saw a resurgence for August, perhaps spurred on by the large numbers of August and September-born children who all need birthday gifts.<\/p>\n
