A bunch of do-no-gooders went on a rampage in World of WarCraft yesterday, killing thousands of players and NPCs around Azeroth with an instant kill hack.<\/p>\n

“We didn’t do any permanent damage. Some people liked it for a new topic of conversation and a funny stream to watch, and some people didn’t. The people who didn’t should be blaming Blizzard for not fixing it faster (four hours of obvious use is sad),” a person claiming to have been responsible for the carnage posted on a hacker forum which Eurogamer found but didn’t link to, which I subsequently found and probably shouldn’t link to either.<\/p>\n

Apparently even hackers have some code of honour, and the deed did not go un-rebuked on the forum. Responding to criticism from others, the user defended his actions, saying that, “It’s not like I added 20,000,000 gold to everyone’s inventory and broke the economy, but look at the big Chinese gold seller companies who are doing this every day. Now ask yourself who is really ruining the game. It’s not us.”<\/p>\n

The hack has been sorted out by Blizzard, who is now investigating the matter. Players who may have been traumatised by the momentary reconnection with reality are requested to keep playing and try to forget it ever happened. The grind must go on.<\/p>\n
