It was also the day on which most of the gaming competitions at rAge had their final matches. There were a number of gaming competitions occurring at rAge, including the AGASA Do-Gaming VIP competitions, along with the Dreamhack Quake Reborn competition.

AGASA Do-Gaming Counterstrike Source Tournament

With 12 teams entered into the CSS competition this year, the tournament was always going to be a lively affair. This was illustrated by the amount of noise produced by the competitors as they shouted at each other across the VIP gaming area, during games. The competition, however, was dominated by Caucasian Persuasion (cP). The team won all their games on the day, to set up a final match with Eternal Conflict (eC). The final was a rather one-sided affair on Inferno Pro, with cP dominating eC on both sides to win with the scoreline reading a convincing 16-6.

The top four rankings are as follows:

1st – Caucasian Persuasion (cP)

2nd – Eternal Conflict (eC)

3rd – Soviet (Sov)

4th – Ascent

AGASA Do-Gaming Battlefield 2 Tournament

This year marks what is probably the last year of a game which has become a firm fixture on the rAge LAN scene – Battlefield 2. With the announced release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, along with the expected release of Battlefield 3 next year, it would appear BF2’s run at rAge is at an end. What isn’t at an end, however, is the continued dominance of the team First in Battle (FiB). Their teams Terra and Ventus, for the first time in a competition, placed first and second. For the third year in a row Terra won the competition in convincing fashion, despite one or two close rounds, thus cementing their place as the number one BF2 clan in the country. It remains to be seen, however, if their dominance will continue with the release of Bad Company 2 and BF3.

The top four rankings are as follows:

1st – [FiB]Terra

2nd – [FiB]Ventus

3rd – +SSG+

4th – BFC

Dreamhack Quake Reborn Tournament

This year marked a departure from the format of last year’s Dreamhack competition. In place of having a qualifying LAN prior to rAge, people were invited to apply for a spot in the competition online. Those who entered were reserved a spot in the competition, which started on Saturday. This year, the decision was taken to hold the competition on the Quake 3 CPMA mod, as opposed to Call of Duty 4 which was the game of choice in 2008.

As a result of the decision to play Quake 3, MSI took the opportunity to fly in the sponsored international Quake 3 players Sebastian ‘FnaticMSI.Spart1e’ Siira and Pierre-Emeric ‘FnaticMSI.l1nkje’ Portier for the tournament. Despite playing Quake Live on the international scene, both international players stamped their authority on the Quake CPMA tournament to book their places in the final.

Graciously, they both gave up the 1st place prize of the trip to the Dreamhack LAN in Sweden to the first South African finisher.

The 3rd and 4th place playoff was a close affair between Stephen “Ph4ntom” Cloete and Travis “Shase” Weedon on the maps ZTN and DM6. Despite staying within two frags of Ph4ntom on the first two maps of the final, a poor spawn into the path of a rocket-launcher-wielding Ph4ntom on DM6 saw Shase lose momentum and crash out of the map 22-12, giving Ph4ntom the win for third place. This means that Ph4ntom has a few months to practice on the internationally-used Quake Live before flying off to Dreamhack.

The final was another close affair between the FnaticMSI players, with the advantage swinging between both players on the three maps – DM6, DM13 and Tourney4. In the end, however, FnaticMSI.Spart1e triumphed over FnaticMSI.l1nkje.
The final four finishers were:

1st – FnaticMSI.Spart1e

2nd – FnaticMSI.l1nkje

3rd – Ph4ntom

4th – Shase

Brazen won the Telkom DoGaming CoD4 tournament – read more.

[3

post-4568","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-pc
["GET
