Infamous Valve President Gabe Newell has announced that “based on the strength of pre orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest selling game in Valve’s history”<\/p>\n
This is a strong claim, considering that Valve has been responsible for a number of classic titles including Half Life and The Orange Box, both of which have topped global sales charts.<\/p>\n
Newell’s statement came as part of yesterday’s announcement that Left 4 Dead 2, which will be released on the 17th of November, will be backed by a $25 million (R187 million) global advertising campaign. In comparison Left 4 Dead, which was released last year, was allocated only $10 million (R7.5 million)for advertising.<\/p>\n
Valve has noted that the campaign will be “more aggressive” and will include television and outdoor advertising. While this high level advertising is unlikely to reach South Africa, the game will certainly be marketed through the usual local online and print media channels.<\/p>\n
Newell also added that “Left 4 Dead 2 has consistently run at 300% of Left 4 Dead’s numbers” with Marketing Vice President Doug Lombardi remarking that “Left 4 Dead 2 has already set the record for greatest number of pre-orders in our company’s history.”<\/p>\n
The Left 4 Dead franchise has been surrounded in controversy since its launch in 2008.
While some might argue that the allegations of racism and the fact that the game has not received classification is Australia have hurt the franchise, it seems that it has served only to make it more popular amongst early buyers.<\/p>\n
Left 4 Dead 2, which will carry an 18+ classification in South Africa, will be available locally on Xbox 360 and PC in November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
