Many gamers will fondly recall early experiences with the likes of Sim City and its numerous Sim spin-offs which had us managing everything from sprawling metropolises to ant-farms. Back then it seemed that Maxis was determined to make a Sim game for everything, until they made the Sims, a project that from the time of its release has dominated the developer’s attentions.
Recently, two canceled Sim games that were being worked on in the last 90s have emerged; Sim Castle and Sim Mars.<\/p>\n
According to former Maxis artist Ward Moore, Sim Castle was aimed at kids, while Sim Mars was quite the opposite, making use of research findings and scientific theories developed at NASA.<\/p>\n

The goal is to successfully colonize Mars using NASA inspired technology. The user had to creatively impliment the available martian resource and plan their living around the 6-month cycle of supply ships. (6 months being the time Earth launch to Martian arrival).<\/p>\n Because of this premise, aesthetics revolved around the real world constraints of habitats and supplies being packaged and arriving in a chemical propelled rockets, arriving on the martian surface, after which they endure the corrosive effects of wind and radiation. Bots and Rovers are the preferred method of maintenance and travel. Coordinating assets and creatively recycling existing material creates martian civilizations.”<\/p>\n
