Research firm NPD has released its software sales data for the US in September.<\/p>\n
The USA is traditionally a strong territory for Microsoft’s Xbox 360. As usual, the software sales charts were dominated by Xbox 360 and Nintendo sales, although the Wii did not place particularly well. The PS3 was better represented than it has been in past months, although Halo 3: ODST dominated the top ten, outselling its closest runner up by more than three fold.<\/p>\n

The Beatles – PS3 – 132,000<\/p>\n Of the top 20, 8 were Xbox 360 games, 3 were Wii games, 4 were DS games and 5 were PS3 games.<\/p>\n Microsoft did particularly well, especially considering that Halo 3: ODST sold more copies than the five closest top sellers combined.<\/p>\n While Microsoft still dominates with software sales, this may be changing. September 2009 was the first period in which Sony sold more PS3s than Microsoft did Xbox 360s and Nintendo did Wiis.<\/p>\n A growing install base means that we can expect to see constantly improving software sales for Sony over the coming months. Furthermore, the PS3 exclusive Uncharted 2 is a strong candidate for the top selling game in October.<\/p>\n
