Chris Olivera, former VP of corporate communications and public affairs for massive video game retailer GameStop, has plead guilty to embezzlement. Olivera used his position to steal a total of $2 million from the company.<\/p>\n
Olivera used a bogus company called Cloud Communications, LLC, based in Nevada. The company even had an imaginary representative known as Jennifer Miller. Olivera frequently sent payments from GameStop to this imaginary corporation, a corporation he brought into existence by filing paper with the Nevada secretary of state.<\/p>\n
The embezzlement went on for nearly two years, from July 2009 to April 2011, at which time GameStop management became suspicious of the payments and thus Olivera himself. Now Olivera has plead guilty to a single count of mail fraud \u2013 which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years and a $250,000 fine.<\/p>\n
GameStop chose not to discuss any details of the case, simply saying, “Mr. Olivera was terminated last year and GameStop has fully and completely cooperated with the government’s investigation.”<\/p>\n
