{"id":47263,"date":"2012-11-12T15:48:22","date_gmt":"2012-11-12T13:48:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=47263"},"modified":"2012-11-12T15:50:05","modified_gmt":"2012-11-12T13:50:05","slug":"world-of-warcraft-gamer-wins-state-senate-election-in-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/47263-world-of-warcraft-gamer-wins-state-senate-election-in-america","title":{"rendered":"World of Warcraft gamer wins US state senate election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maine Democratic state senate candidate Colleen Lachowicz has won the state&#8217;s election, despite attempts by the opposition Republican Party to tarnish her reputation by revealing that &#8211; <em>gasp!<\/em> &#8211; she plays World of Warcraft.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Colleen Lachowicz spends hundreds of hours playing in her online world Azeroth, as an Orc Assassination Rogue named Santiaga,&#8221; read a lurid flyer\u00a0sent to voters in the district, and funded by the local Republican Party. Apparently this is, like, a big deal or something in a country where millions of voting adults play video games too.<\/p>\n<p>Hilariously, the totally shocking scandal didn&#8217;t quite work out as intended, and instead, supporters from around the world raised $6300 towards Lochowicz&#8217;s election campaign. Oh snap.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Lachowicz beat out Republican incumbent Thomas Martin to represent Maine&#8217;s 25th Senate district, winning 52.8 percent of the votes.
