AMD is adamant however that it does not support this procedure, and therefore will not provide any support to those doing so.

The following AMD/ATi graphics cards will not receive official Windows 7 Catalyst drivers:

ATI Radeon 9500, 9550, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300, X550, X600, X700, X800, X850, X1050, X1300, X1550, X1600, X1650, X1800, X1900, Xpress, X1200, X1250, X2100.
Only DX 10 cards will continue to be supported by AMD for use in Windows 7. These include the HD 2000, HD 3000, HD 4000 and of course, the recently release HD 5000 series.

AMD will also drastically slow support for Windows XP and Windows Vista based drivers for pre-DX10 cards. These updates will be limited to critical fixes.

One can understand the move, given AMD’s focus on DX11, however, many commentators have pointed out that it is unnecessary due to the fact that most games are still coded with DX 9 in mind, and significant changes are unlikely whilst current generation consoles remainthe focus of game developers.

Discuss DX 9 in Windows 7 in the forums

[7

post-4728","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hardware
["GET
