First-person shooters (next to sports) is the most widely played genre in gaming. Loved by PC and console gamers, first-person shooters are always leading the pack, with the Call of Duties and Battlefields that continue to top the charts, but there’s also a number of great FPSs that deserve some attention.<\/p>\n

Some of the following games got mixed reviews or didn\u2019t show-up bright enough on the radar to pull in enough attention, but it doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re not great games in their own right.<\/p>\n

So if you\u2019re looking for something besides shooting generic terrorists in Middle-East locations, place a sticky note on the following FPSes (and let us know what you think if you have played them).<\/p>\n

Singularity<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Singularity is definitely one of the most interesting and entertaining shooters of 2010. It may initially appear familiar to those who\u2019ve played Bioshock and Half-Life, but Singularity creates a unique personality for itself with a phenomenal story, intriguing level design and time-manipulating mechanics.<\/p>\n

The game involves a TMD (Time Manipulation Device), which allows players to travel through time and fix the course of history. It may sound awfully confusing, but the time-travelling antics and action vs. consequence theme of the game are its high points with the entire experience delivering a compelling and intriguing narrative.<\/p>\n

Rage<\/h3>\n

When id got tired of spending their DOOM money, they decided to deliver another gun-wielding adventure, although with a new post-apocalyptic setting and open-world layout.<\/p>\n

It may have been up to the extremely high expectations set by fans, but that said, Rage is still one of the best and most gorgeous shooters out there. There\u2019s enough here to keep you busy for 20+ hours and the stuff id does right is phenomenal. So if you\u2019re looking for a well-rounded shooter that\u2019s had some serious spit-and-polish, Rage should be on your list.<\/p>\n

Bulletstorm <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The combination of People Can Fly and Epic Games seemed like a match made in heaven, and it was, but Bulletstorm is a frighteningly underplayed game.<\/p>\n

With Cliffy B as a designer and some really interesting “kill with skill” mechanics, Bulletstorm is one of the most ridiculous and off-the-wall games in quite some time \u2013 and it’s insanely satisfying.<\/p>\n

Besides impaling enemies on cacti, the heavy gunplay along with the manoeuvrability of a third-person shooter is really something rarely seen in FPSes today.<\/p>\n

Killzone 3 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s weird to hear the word \u201cKillzone\u201d and \u201cunderplayed\u201d in the same sentence, but hearing how many people haven\u2019t played Guerilla\u2019s FPS masterpiece saddens me.<\/p>\n

Fans of the previous game will not be disappointed as KZ3 has not lost any of its dirty in-your-face attitude and killing Helghast has never been this beautiful. A great single-player campaign is complimented by an improved and revamped multiplayer component. Killzone 3 had quite big shoes to fill, and it does it with ease.<\/p>\n

Resistance 3<\/h3>\n

Resistance 3 manages to exceed all the expectations put forward by its predecessors by delivering a heart-stopping campaign, complete with a touching story which sums up the sombre mood of the game.<\/p>\n

This is the best the series has to offer and if you\u2019re slightly interested, pick it up because the final fight against the Chimera is one worth joining the resistance for.<\/p>\n

Crysis 2<\/h3>\n

Crysis 2 is obviously a monumentally popular game – however, it does have a tendency to be referred to as \u201cnot as good as the first one\u201d.<\/p>\n

While Crysis 2 is very different, it\u2019s just as impressive a game as the original. The sequel brings a lot of new ideas to the FPS genre, and is an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous visual romp. But more than that, the gameplay mechanics have been tightened up from Crysis 1, and all the loose fatty ends cut off. This is a unique and quick-moving FPS experience that you won\u2019t find anywhere else.<\/p>\n
