While the US government spends billions of dollars on petty terrestrial wars here on Planet Earth, some citizens have decided that the cash would be much better spend on a space station. Not just any space station, mind you, but a fully operational, armored battle station with the power to destroy entire worlds (more or less). Basically, a Death Star.<\/p>\n
Nevermind Afghanistan, there’s a whole galaxy to invade before they can put a McDonalds quickstop on every corner.<\/p>\n
A petition launched on the White House’s official “We The People” soapbox<\/a> is demanding that the US government get busy building the Death Star, and pretty soon too:<\/p>\n Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.<\/p>\n By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Somewhat surprisingly (or not), only about 1100 people have signed the petition so far.
