One of the greatest consoles ever made, Sony\u2019s Playstation 2, is slowly becoming extinct in Japan.<\/p>\n
Sony has ceased shipments of the PS2 in Japan \u2013 you can still buy one off the shelf, but once the current stock is gone, that\u2019s it for the aging console.<\/p>\n
The PS2 was first released in Japan more than 12 years ago in March 2000, and as of last week it has sold 21 million units in the country. Globally that figure is a staggering 153.6 million units since the beginning of 2012.<\/p>\n
As for the rest of the world, there\u2019s been no official statement on shipping stopping to other regions, although it\u2019s likely safe to say that they won\u2019t be too far behind.<\/p>\n
While the PS2 may be long forgotten by many, it truly is the end of an era.<\/p>\n
