Telkom has done away with a hard-cap on its capped ADSL accounts, and is introducing a soft-cap, effective from 1 February 2013. A spokesperson for Telkom has updated MyGaming on how this will affect gaming-specific Internet usage situations.<\/p>\n
According to Telkom:<\/p>\n
Telkom’s spokesperson said that “The soft-cap feature was not designed for gaming. We are committed to providing a satisfying gaming experience and supporting local gaming communities, and we are working on a number of initiatives to provide a better experience in future.”<\/p>\n
Telkom will be upgrading its Internet network from 1 February 2013, and this change will mean that capped users will now get access to all websites even after they reach their monthly usage limit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis effectively means customers reaching their internet cap will no longer be limited to local data. They will now also be able to access international sites,\u201d Telkom explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of hitting a cap, customers will now merely have their speed slowed down and some of their international activity shaped.\u201d<\/p>\n
Telkom added that all data consumed on the soft cap will be free \u2013 a move away from the current system where customers may be charged for over-usage.<\/p>\n
\u201cDay to day activities such as email, banking and browsing will be given priority, whilst lower priority will be given to high-usage applications such as file sharing and streaming services,\u201d Telkom said.<\/p>\n
Prices remain the same for the Do (consumer) and TBiz (business) capped bundles.<\/p>\n
