Less than two weeks ago we reported that Dead Space 2 had been unofficially confirmed<\/a>. Rumors began with a job listing<\/a> which suggested that the sequel was in development and would feature multiplayer<\/p>\n

Then a teaser emerged in Xbox 360 World Magazine<\/a>, advertising a mystery world exclusive, although fans of the first game immediately recognized protagonist Isaac Clarke’s trademark health bar displaying space suit displayed in the teaser.<\/p>\n

Perhaps a little later than we would like, EA has come to the party and officially confirmed that Dead Space 2 development is under way.<\/p>\n

According to the publisher the game will feature “new tools to gruesomely slice and dismember the Necromorphs complement Isaac’s signature Plasma Cutter, empowering him as he meets new characters, explores epic Zero-G environments, and fights against a relentless necromorph onslaught.  Survival isn’t the only thing on Isaac’s mind in Dead Space.”<\/p>\n

“We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing!” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2. “In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”<\/p>\n

Released in late 2008, Dead Space was arguably the surprise hit of the year. Earning an average Metacritic score of 89\/100, the game is widely regarded as the best survival-horror game of recent years.<\/p>\n

Dead Space 2 is currently in development for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and a release timeframe has yet to be confirmed. <\/p>\n
