Last month Web Africa announced its plans to launch a free online gaming service which would allow its subscribers to play games online without using any of their allocated bandwidth.<\/p>\n
The recent upgrade of Web Africa to a tier one service provider has made such a service possible.<\/p>\n
“Having our own network makes it possible to control speed and reliability, ensuring that response times are optimal for gaming. Our focus is to ensure that gamers have a hassle-free experience, so we’ve joined forces with the best in the business to offer a top-quality service” said Web Africa games master Johnathan Enslin.<\/p>\n
As planned, the service went live yesterday, December 10. At 3pm the ISP migrated all its shaped ADSL users to its new IPC network. The gaming service officially went live at 6pm yesterday evening.<\/p>\n
The ISP has shown that it is clearly in touch with the local gaming community, and currently lists a number of core titles that it supports on its website. There are currently servers for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty 5: World at War, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Source, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Allegiance.<\/p>\n
Web Africa has partnered with local gaming infrastructure team Organized Chaos, and has confirmed that when using its gaming servers all bandwidth will be unshaped. This should ensure that gamers experience the lowest possible latency when playing.<\/p>\n
Sadly, due to its lack of dedicated server support, Web Africa is unable to provision its service for the recently released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.<\/p>\n
