MyGaming caught up with American McGee (Alice, Quake II) to ask a few questions about Akaneiro: Demon Hunters \u2013 a twisted version of Little Red Riding Hood told as a dungeon crawl \u2018em up set in post-feudal Japan.<\/p>\n

American McGee explained that, despite looking different, many of the core gameplay features of RPGs will be immediately familiar to action-RPG fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe core gameplay elements are those that most fans of the ARPG genre will be familiar with,\u201d said McGee. \u201cMany players have described the resulting balance and flow as being very \u2018streamlined.\u2019 That means if you’re a fan of the genre then Akaneiro is definitely worth checking out.\u201d<\/p>\n

McGee did emphasise that Akaneiro will feature many unique elements and factors, that do mix up the traditional gameplay mechanics.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou’re able to do things like train for skills and use items without worrying about class restrictions,\u201d explained McGee. \u201cThis gives player totally flexibility in creating the type of in-game character they’d like.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thanks to the successful Kickstarter campaign, Spicy Horse are also able to add a unique cross-platform\/device co-op multiplayer feature. \u201cThis would allow you to login to your game account from the web, a client version or Android\/iOS tablet – and to play in real-time with your friends, no matter where they are coming from,\u201d said McGee.<\/p>\n

When asked about the feedback from the beta phases of Akaneiro, McGee said that community feedback and data analysis resulted in some fine tweaks for the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cCombining these two things together we were able to achieve a fair balance with things like difficulty and the in-game economy,\u201d explained Mcgee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat feedback also helped us prioritize which features to deliver first – for example, the team wasn’t concerned about volume sliders for music and sound effects (they figured players would be more concerned about solid game mechanic), but enough noise was made that volume sliders were added before launch. It sounds like a minor thing – but this sort of prioritization is critical when you have a small development team.\u201d<\/p>\n

A beta of Akaneiro: Demon Hunters is currently free to play on the\u00a0Spicy Horse website<\/a>, with the game set to arrive on Steam after being Greenlit by the community.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
