<\/p>\nSony’s last attempt at bringing the Playstation experience to the mobile phone resulted in the beautiful but much-maligned Xperia Play.<\/p>\n
While it worked well and had a good range of retro titles to choose from, it was only one piece of the Xperia lineup and in reality, it was far cheaper to get a PSP instead. It seems that they’re now planning to bring back that functionality to Xperia, but this time by allowing tethering with the Dualshock 3.<\/p>\n

The original story appeared on the Xperia Blog where a Sony engineer demonstrated the tethering option, how the pairing functions worked and how well the phone handled translating the input from the controller via Bluetooth. There doesn’t appear to be any lag and gameplay on the phone (which was a Sony Xperia SP) seems flawless. Its like playing on a really small PS2.<\/p>\n
You need to pair the controller to the phone using a USB cable and then you navigate into the settings menu to pair up the controller and register it with the phone. Its worth noting that once you do this you’ll need to re-pair it to your PS3 because the limited memory inside the controller can only save profiles for a single device.<\/p>\n
This is also not a new development in the Xperia family, because Sony was showing the same idea off at local launch of the Xperia Z and ZL<\/a> in India earlier in April 2013.
