The Halo movie has to be one of the most troubled film projects in recent Hollyhood history, but the man who was behind the project at one point<\/a>, still has some hope for it.<\/p>\n

Neil Bloemkamp, the South African director behind District 9 and the upcoming Elysium<\/a>, said that he would still like to do a Halo live-action movie, but there are obstacles to consider.<\/p>\n

“I still really love the world and the universe and the mythology of Halo. If I was given control, I would really like to do that film,” Blomkamp confessed. “But that’s the problem. When something pre-exists, there’s this idea of my own interpretation versus 150 other people involved with the film’s interpretation of the same intellectual property.<\/p>\n

Bloemkamp also expressed the concern with living up to what Halo fans may expect from a big-screen adaptation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire filmgoing audience has their interpretation. You can really live up to or fail in their eyes. That part isn’t appealing to me, but the original pieces are appealing.”<\/p>\n

When asked about whether District 9 or his other films could be getting sequels, Bloemkamp had the following to say:<\/p>\n

“As far as sequels to my own stuff, I think a lot of it just comes down to if there’s more to say. I think the world of District 9 has a lot of race and oppression-based ideas that I would still like to explore in that world. Again, I have no problem remaking my own stuff or whatever you call it. Sequelizing my own stuff,\u201d<\/p>\n

The director then discussed the idea of taking on other well-known projects or characters with future endeavours.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere’s a few pieces of cinema history that I like so much. I don’t know if I could be involved with them, but there’s iconic characters out there that I really like and would love to get closer to and make a film about. When I start dipping my toes into it, I get this allergic reaction. Maybe one day I’ll end up doing something like that,\u201d said Bloemkamp.<\/p>\n

Bloemkamp\u2019s Elysium<\/a> will hit theatres on 9 August 2013.<\/p>\n
