Activision UK has won a case which charged two people working with the publisher for fraud.<\/p>\n
For those who may not know, Activision UK had been going back and forth with two PR employees (one in-house and one external), who the company claimed had spent the marketing funds on personal items and services, instead of doing their prescribed jobs.<\/p>\n
Activision\u2019s Kathryn Kirton stole \u00a318,963 from the company, and had spent it on holidays, clothing and parties, while the co-defendant, Jamie Kaye, who was a PR consultant for Frank PR, stole \u00a35000 and five iPads.<\/p>\n
\u201c”You bought a large quantity of designer clothing. You spent time in luxury accommodation and you funded your engagement party through dishonest means,\u201d said Judge John Hillen of the Blackfriars Crown Court. \u201cThere was repeat dishonesty over a period of months. There is no doubt your wickedness deserves a severe sentence.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both Kirton and Kaye pleaded guilty, with Kirton receiving 18 months in prison and a two-year suspension, while Kaye was given a nine month sentence, and 12 months suspension.<\/p>\n
“In the world of PR you are surrounded by luxury items. That is reality for people working in that industry,\u201d added Judge Hillen. \u201cWhat is surprising is that cases like this are happening more and more often in your industry. But this is not the place to explore the PR industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
