Thanks to modern advancements in technology, it is now possible to play the game in an internet browser, which is precisely what Quake Live does.

The game can run on almost any PC or laptop, making it a popular choice for gamers that are bound to an office desk all day, as well as those just looking for a dose of nostalgia.

The game currently supports most major internet browsers, excluding Chrome. Not only is Quake Live compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, but Linux and Mac OS users are also able to get in on the action.

In order to play users need to first sign up. Once this is done, a small plugin is downloaded and players are instructed to setup their profile followed by a tutorial. The process can be kicked off at QuakeLive.com.

Once players complete the tutorial stage, they can go online. When local users select ‘play online’ they will automatically be shown the selection of local servers – all marked with the SA flag – of which there are currently 6.

miNt Quake Live Cup

Despite its growing popularity in the local and international gaming community, Quake live did not make the cut for this year’s Telkom DoGaming league.
Local gaming organization miNt Gaming has stepped up to the plate and will be hosting and organising a Quake Live Cup.

“The Cup is going to consist of two divisions: a pro division and an amateur division. The top division consisting of mainly old school players and players previously seeded in a Quake tournament. The idea with this is to have players play in an environment and versus opponents matching their skill level instead of throwing newer players into the deep end.”

“The placing of some players will be done by respected members in the community, with the bulk of the placings done according to the rAge 2009 Quake 3 tournament seedings.”
Time and Dates

The cup will be played over three days

Stage 1: Monday, 1st of March from 6PM – 11pm
Stage 2: Wednesday, 3rd of March from 6pm – 11pm
Final Stage: Sunday 7th of March from 2pm – 5pm

Players have 15 minutes to pitch for their games after the allocated start times. If a player does not arrive in time, their opponent can choose to have a forfeit win. This is simply to assure that the tournament runs smoothly and on schedule.

Prizes

Since this is the first Cup, and more of an experimental cup, the prizes will be small. We are busy organizing hardware sponsors, but so far the prizes will be in cash. The amounts will be determined closer to the Cup, so watch this space for updates.

Find out more about the competition at miNt Gaming.

Discuss the Quake Live Cup in the forums

[3

post-5408","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-pc
["GET
