Nintendo has hit a YouTuber with \u201ccontent ID match\u201d claims, which could allow Nintendo to essentially block or prevent monetisation of his videos.<\/p>\n
The YouTuber is Zack Scott, who is known for his skits and comedy videos, but also does a gaming segment called \u201cLet\u2019s Play\u201d, in which Zack captures footage of himself playing Wii, 3DS and Wii U games \u2013 pretty normal YouTube stuff.<\/p>\n
Well, Nintendo sees this is using their footage for commercial benefit, and while it\u2019s not a “copyright infringement” claim, they\u2019re preventing him from monetising his videos.<\/p>\n
\u201cVideo games\u00a0aren’t\u00a0like movies or TV. Each play-through is a unique audiovisual experience,\u201d said Scott in a statement on Facebook. \u201cWhen I see a film that someone else is also watching, I don\u2019t need to see it again. When I see a game that someone else is playing, I want to play that game for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSince I started my gaming channel, I\u2019ve played a lot of games. I love Nintendo, so\u00a0I’ve\u00a0included their games in my line-up. But until their claims are straightened out, I won\u2019t be playing their games. I won\u2019t because it jeopardizes my channel\u2019s copyright standing and the livelihood of all LPers,\u201d added Scott.<\/p>\n
A number of other YouTubers have also made claims of Nintendo\u00a0targeting\u00a0them for “content ID match” issues.<\/p>\n
Nintendo was contacted regarding the situation, with a rep stating that: “We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property.”<\/p>\n
