Nvidia’s GTX780, which launched yesterday, is available to purchase and, for some models, pre-order from various South African online retailers.

UPDATE: Rebel Tech has told MyGaming that stocks are very limited at the moment and that they should be able to stock more brands by next week.

MyGaming approached a number of retailers and distributors asking for information about when stock was arriving and estimated pricing. As these are the first cards to land in the country, they will have the “first adopter” tax, whereby the prices are slightly hiked at retail due to stock issues or expected consumer demand. This isn’t entirely the fault of the retailer either, as the RRPs are set by Nvidia for each country and the local distributors also have their own mark-up.

Below is a round-up of prices for the GTX780 from various retailers. Although many retailers won’t make this listing as they’re getting their prices and entries for their websites up, you can be sure that by the end of the month everyone will have at least one or two brands on offer. Sources close to MyGaming have confirmed that Inno3D is one of the only brands currently in stock, with Gigabyte and MSI landing in about two week’s time. For now, all the cards will use stock coolers, although this isn’t the case with EVGA’s ACX Edition, which sports dual 80mm fans and a custom heatsink as well as mildly higher stock clocks.

This is steep pricing for the card, though. On average its 27% faster than the GTX680 and 21% faster than the Radeon HD7970 at resolutions like 2650 x 1440 and 5670 x 1080 (triple-monitor) – and those gaps are easily shortened through a bit of overclocking.

The real value of the card is that its only 8% slower than the Geforce GTX Titan. The Titan’s pricing starts from as little as R13,000, bumping up to around R15,000 for the bigger brand name versions.

For that price, you could fork out another thousand bucks and have two GTX780 cards in SLI. It’ll be cheaper than Titan SLI and, once overclocked, is faster than Titan SLI as well. That’s where the real value of the GTX780 lies.

More Hardware news:

Gigabyte’s Z87 lineup in detail

AMD Temash gives glimpse of gaming future in Acer Aspire V5 sub-notebook

ASUS Z87 Haswell motherboards unveiled

[7
9916,21,9978,45
post-54408","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-hardware","tag-gtx780","tag-headline","tag-kepler","tag-nvidia
["GET
