{"id":5569,"date":"2010-03-11T12:34:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-11T10:34:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"pc-games-make-13-1-billion-in-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/5569-pc-games-make-13-1-billion-in-2009","title":{"rendered":"PC games make $13.1 billion in 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An industry consortium referred to as the PC gaming alliance recently revealed the details behind its 2009 Horizons Report, which gives an update on the state of PC gaming globally.<\/p>\n<p>Key among the findings is the fact that &#8220;PC gaming software revenue&#8221; has continued to show strong growth &ndash; raking in $13.1 billion. This is $2.1 billion more than in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Most of this growth, says<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shacknews.com\/onearticle.x\/62729\" target=\"_blank\"> Shack News<\/a>, can be attributed to the popularity of digital distribution methods and paid downloads. According to the report boxed retail copies contributed &#8220;less than 20% of total revenue [in 2009].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although the overall market grew the report did indicate that major territiroes such as the US and Europe saw a decline compared to the record sales highs experienced in 2008.
