While the new Xbox One console will come bundled with the next-gen Kinect camera, it won\u2019t work on PCs, however, the PC platforming will be getting its own camera.<\/p>\n
Speaking in an interview, Microsoft said that the next-gen Kinect camera is designed to work exclusively with Xbox One, but the new Kinect for Windows will be released to cater for PC gamers.<\/p>\n
“The Kinect for Xbox One sensor will not have an adapter that allows it to plug into a computer,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Ars in an e-mail. Instead, “the new generation Kinect for Windows sensor will connect to computers using a standard USB3 port [emphasis added].”<\/p>\n
“The new generation Kinect for Windows sensor will be a fully tested, licensed, and supported Kinect experience on Windows,” said Microsoft. “Kinect for Xbox One is being built for and tested with the Xbox One.”<\/p>\n
While it has no release date, Microsoft\u2019s corporate vice president of interactive entertainment business, Ben Kilgore, also said that the new Kinect would become available for PC \u201cat some point down the line.\u201d<\/p>\n
