Ubisoft has posted a notice on its forum asking users to reset their passwords following an apparent hack attack, or put into non-threatening PR-drone speak:<\/p>\n

We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Unfortunately this is a pretty serious hack, as Ubisoft states that:<\/p>\n

[D]ata were illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. No personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit\/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This means that if you have used your Uplay e-mail and password combination on any other online services, then the hackers now potentially have access to these.<\/p>\n

Out of an abundance of caution, we also recommend that you change your password on any other Web site or service where you use the same or a similar password.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You can\u00a0change your Uplay password here<\/a><\/strong>. Ubisoft has created a\u00a0forum thread<\/a> for users to bitch and moan<\/span> post questions.<\/p>\n

Ubisoft says they have closed off the access exploit, is working on “restoring the integrity of any compromised systems”, and has begun an investigation involving “authorities” and security experts. I’m sure those hackers are quaking in their boots…<\/p>\n

Ubisoft also apologised for the data breach:<\/p>\n

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Perhaps I should “sincerely” say thanks to Ubisoft on the behalf of MyGaming readers for pushing a crummy DRM system onto the computer’s of paying customers and then allowing our valuable personal information to be stolen.<\/p>\n
