Square Enix has confirmed that a follow-up to the Tomb Raider reboot, released in March 2013, is in development.<\/p>\n
“Square Enix is in production with a number of next generation projects, including Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which were announced at this year’s E3, and Thief coming in 2014,” said Phil Rogers, US and Europe chief executive of Square Enix.<\/p>\n
“I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may\u00a0have heard about recently!”<\/p>\n
Rogers was alluding to the slip-of-the-tongue by Tomb Raider comic-book writer Gail Simone, who let out that a sequel was in development by saying the follow-on comic would \u201clead directly into the sequel.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rogers also explained that while Square Enix is looking at new development and distribution methods for the games, the publisher is definitely not abandoning traditional game markets.<\/p>\n
“I can categorically say that we’re not abandoning core, triple-A console and PC games,” Rogers said.<\/p>\n
“At the same time new business models have risen up, which we periodically will try to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n
