South African director Neill Blomkamp has said that the failure of the Halo film project allowed him to make his breakout movie, District 9.<\/p>\n

“The luck is the fact that Peter [Jackson] and Fran [Walsh] let me make [District 9] out of the ruins that were Halo,” said Blomkamp.<\/p>\n

“What happened out of that was learning to trust my ideas. If Halo had come out and succeeded or failed, I wouldn’t have learned that.”<\/p>\n

While the death of the Halo film project was a good omen for the SA director, he has expressed that he\u2019d still like to do the film, but there are obstacles to consider.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still really love the world and the universe and the mythology of Halo. If I was given control, I would really like to do that film,\u201d Blomkamp said. \u201cBut that\u2019s the problem. When something pre-exists, there\u2019s this idea of my own interpretation versus 150 other people involved with the film\u2019s interpretation of the same intellectual property.<\/p>\n

Bloemkamp\u2019s next sci-fi epic, Elysium<\/a>,\u00a0will hit theatres on 9 August 2013.<\/p>\n
