The long-awaited next instalment into the Wolfenstein franchise, The New Order, is looking to bring back the brutal difficulty and run-\u2018n-gun action to current and next-gen consoles.<\/p>\n
MyGaming caught up with Machine Games\u2019 senior gameplay designer Andreas Ojerfors to find out why The New Order was delayed and what differences players may see on the different platforms.<\/p>\n
Regarding the game\u2019s recent delay, with the game moving from a late 2013 launch date to\u00a0 2014, Ojerfors said that it wasn\u2019t about problems, but purely about more\u00a0 development time.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just wanted more time to iron out everything and make sure that it\u2019s the best quality as possible,\u201d said Ojerfors. \u201cThe goal was also to get the game onto the next-gen consoles, so it\u2019s like trying to hit a moving target, but the extra time will allow us to make a better game,\u201d added Ojerfors.<\/p>\n
With regards to the new consoles, MyGaming asked about the core differences between the current and next-gen versions.<\/p>\n
\u201cVisual quality basically \u2013 on next-gen and PC we are able to achieve a much higher poly-count, as well as better lighting, hi-res textures and just make the game work smoothly at a higher resolution,\u201d said Ojerfors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe next-gen consoles and PCs have allowed it to be very easy to add high-quality lighting and textures, and it\u2019s just about getting the game to run its best on those different platforms. But, at the base level, they\u2019re all the same game,\u201d said Ojerfors.<\/p>\n
Wolfenstein: The New Order launches in 2014 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, with Xbox One and PS4 versions awaiting release dates.<\/p>\n
