{"id":5819,"date":"2010-04-22T09:53:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-22T07:53:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"xbox-tv-channel-in-the-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/xbox\/5819-xbox-tv-channel-in-the-works","title":{"rendered":"Xbox TV channel in the works?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601103&amp;sid=astES33mJmkE\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg<\/a>, two (mysterious, unidentified) industry insiders are claiming Microsoft&rsquo;s in talks with former News Corp guy Peter Chernin about an Xbox TV channel. Discussions are apparently ongoing over at Redmond HQ, with Chernin having suggested Microsoft raise the Xbox LIVE $7.99 monthly subscription price by &ldquo;$1 or $2&rdquo; to include programming aimed at the &ldquo;online service&rsquo;s young, male target audience&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p>As a mature, female gamer, I&rsquo;m not convinced I want to pay more cash for something I&rsquo;m not even remotely interested in. But then, I pay tax under much the same conditions, so whatever.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, it&rsquo;s not entirely without precedent. Xbox LIVE is currently partnered with the Netflix video streaming service in the States and Sky TV in the UK, so a move to include an exclusive TV channel doesn&rsquo;t look altogether unlikely.
