I used to be in the games media. I now blog for Activision. I work inside the building. I don’t agree with everything the company does, yet I don’t agree with a lot of the insults and criticisms the company gets either. So the only way around that is to have a discussion.”

“So. Many of the wall posts show serious anger. I’m not interested in insults and rage, but I am interested in asking questions, maybe trying to explain why some things are the way they are. I might be able to put some of the more controversial discussions in context, or explain some things that have been misreported.”

Flame suite engage Mr. Amrich.

I have to admire the guy’s courage. I mean, posting comments in a forum is one thing, but going on a fully transparent social networking site, and openly representing a company that a lot of angry gamers hate is pretty admirable.

Interestingly, it seems to be yielding some pretty positive results. Had an Activision representative done the same thing in a forum, the trolling and flaming would have been insane. With Facebook being less anonymous, it seems that gamers are taking a far more mature tack, and some interesting points are being raised.

Obviously Amrich only knows so much, and he points out himself that due to the current lawsuit that is underway, we are not likely to get much information out of Activision due to possible legal implications.

He does provide a refreshing perspective on certain issues however, such as the famous Bobby Kotick quote “I want to take the fun out of video games,” which Amrich maintains was taken out of context. You can read more about that in the actual discussion.

Amrich seems pretty honest and open, and is vocal about Kotick’s faults, but argues that he has been unfairly targeted misunderstood.

In order to put forward a question of your own, you will have to join the Gamers against Bobby Kotic & Activision Facebook group.

More on the Activision Infinity Ward scandal

Fired Infinity Ward founders sue Activision

Activision responds to Infinity Ward court case

Activision counter-sues Modern Warfare creators

Modern Warfare 2 creators now “doing what they love” with EA

Infinity Ward loses employees, fast

Infinity Ward insider “Infinity Ward is dead”

Discuss Activision in the forums

[2

post-5824","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-business
["GET
