Being a long time StarCraft and general Blizzard fan, imagine my delight when a key for the beta landed on my desk a few weeks ago. Since then myself and MyGaming’s resident StarCraft nut Caboose have spent a fair amount of time playing it.<\/p>\n

Widespread impressions of the game have been great, and although Blizzard has changed many of the core gameplay functions by tweaking units, it still looks, feels and sounds like StarCraft. Updated visuals, and some interesting changes to units have made for what is essentially a tweaked remake of the original, with an entire new single player campaign on the way. Personally, I couldn’t have asked  for more from the sequel.<\/p>\n

In fact, the game looks and feels so much like the original, that at a glance you might be forgiven for confusing SCII for its progenitor.  The first time I showed a friend, his first reaction was “looks like StarCraft,” and that’s because it does. However, it has been a long time since many of us fired up the old classic, and you might be surprised at just how scary looking StarCraft is when viewed with contemporary eyes. <\/p>\n

With that in mind, I decided it might be interesting to compare some screen-shots between the two games. While this is obviously not meant to be a serious comparision, it does illustrate quite nicely how far visuals have come in the past 12 years.  <\/p>\n
