With the Xbox One approaching its US launch date, and the SA release date still up in the air, Microsoft\u2019s director of Xbox Live programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has revealed that the console has the ability to support mice and keyboards, but at a later stage.<\/p>\n
“We’ll certainly have this great SDK for developers to do what they like. If that’s something they’re interested in doing, we’ll certainly help them do that,\u201d said Hryb.<\/p>\n
“Certainly it’s possible, but we don’t have anything to announce at this time,” he said.<\/p>\n
The one obstacle that Hryb mentioned was that, even if the support for mice and keyboard arrives, the control schemes would need to be reworked for the PC orientation.<\/p>\n
“We kind of have this concept of when you’re playing a PC game you’re leaning forward,” Hryb said. “With an Xbox game, sometimes you lean back. You’re just kinda having fun. And I don’t want to incite the religious debate that will ensue, because I’m very aware. We want to provide a gaming experience that people enjoy, certainly with Windows–that’s our other large gaming platform at Microsoft. So there’s something there, but right now we’re really focused on the console space.”<\/p>\n
Microsoft\u2019s Xbox One is on track to launch in thirteen countries around the world (22 November in the UK) and will be debuting at a price of $499 in the US and Canada. PlayStation 4 will release on 29 November in Europe, Australia and New Zealand and 15 November in the US and Canada.<\/p>\n
