Activision has decided that the next iteration of its popular Guitar Hero franchise will not feature any celebrity musicians or bands.<\/p>\n
This comes after numerous lawsuits and public disputes took place between the publisher and various music industry personalities, such as No Doubt, Courtney Love and Jon Bon Jovi.<\/p>\n
Apparently, despite these and other artists signing off on their likenesses being used in the game, when it came down to the game being released, they didn’t like it much. I can see how the image of Kurt Cobain singing Simple Plan songs would irritate his ex-wife, but it is still unclear why she and others allowed Activision to use various likenesses in the first place.<\/p>\n
There may be some sort of celebrity involvement in Guitar Hero 6, but it is likely to be more controlled. I think the biggest gripe these musicians had was seeing themselves performing songs from bands that they saw as less credible.<\/p>\n
