Sony has added their launch titles for the Playstation 4 to the South African PSN store<\/strong>. The games are available for purchase and include the free games given to Playstation Plus subscribers, namely Resogun and Contrast.<\/p>\n

While the PSN service and its PS Plus subscription may be an attractive prospect in your leap to next-gen, the PSN store prices are out of touch with what SA retail stores are charging<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The price for the average third-party title on the PSN PS4 catalog is R816, while the average price at an online retail store is much lower, down to R612 in the case of Kalahari’s pre-order offerings.<\/p>\n

Considering that with digital distribution there are no issues such as physical copy distribution, stock shortages, and associated retail space costs, and not forgetting that digital buyers cannot sell the game second-hand, charging R927 for Call of Duty: Ghosts<\/strong> is a bit excessive.<\/p>\n

This bloated pricing appears to affect third-party titles from the big publishers, Electronic Arts, Activision, and Ubisoft.<\/p>\n

Injustice and LEGO Marvel Superheroes are published by Warner Bros. Entertainment and Just Dance is done by Ubisoft. The Angry Birds franchise is owned by Activision as well, but perhaps they didn’t have enough gall to charge R927 for it considering that it has been around on mobiles and the PC for some time.<\/p>\n

Sony’s Playstation 4 launches on 13 December at a recommended retail price of R6,299. The console will have accessories such as extra Dualshock 4 controllers and charging stands available on launch, although the PS4’s vertical stand and the red and blue controllers will not be available on launch.<\/p>\n

Ster Kinekor Entertainment has now confirmed the recommended pricing for the PS$ bundles and peripherals in SA: PS4 bundles, games, peripherals: SA pricing revealed<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
