YouTube has unveiled its top videos of 2013 – known as the YouTube Rewind – revealing that gaming channel Pew Die Pie<\/a> is the top channel among South African viewers.<\/p>\n

South African favourites for 2013 included Ylvis<\/a>, Miley<\/a>, Katy<\/a>, Psy<\/a> and Rihanna<\/a>, but local events took precedence as viewers watched the tragic Pinetown truck accident in Durban<\/a>, and the Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi.<\/a><\/p>\n

Rugby player Bryan Habana raced a new British Airways A380 plane<\/a>, viewers showed their concern about child safety on Johannesburg\u2019s roads<\/a>, and there were spoofs on How Animals Eat Their Food.<\/a><\/p>\n

In SA, a record number of comedy channels made the most watched list for 2013. Ellen<\/a>, Just For Laughs<\/a>, MduComics<\/a> and Failarmy<\/a> were favourites, while gaming channel Pew Die Pie<\/a> came in first place in the Top Channels list.<\/p>\n

Globally, the world watched the The Fox<\/a> more than 265 million times, making it the top trending video of 2013. The Fox was also a top searched Halloween costume<\/a>, and converted into a children\u2019s book<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other top videos and trends included Psy\u2019s post-Gangnam Style record-setter Gentleman<\/a>, and there were more “Harlem Shake” videos than there are people in Manhattan (over 1.7 million).<\/p>\n
