Despite having launched in July 2013, access to free-to-play Dota 2 remained closed to an extent, with the previous beta player-base being grown incrementally by Valve’s gated sign-up process.<\/p>\n
Now peaking at around 6.5-million active players each month, the Dota 2 floodgates have opened as sign-ups are now available to all comers and there are no more access queues.<\/p>\n
Valve’s Dota 2 team believes their infrastructure is up to the task:<\/p>\n
For the past several months, access to Dota 2 has been granted through a queue system that gated entry into the community. We\u2019ve used this system to gradually increase the size of our playerbase, as we ramped up our infrastructure and improved the experience for new players. As we have recently completed a set of server management upgrades as well as released a huge number of enhancements to the new user experience, we\u2019re going to remove all restrictions to playing Dota 2.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
