Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andy House unveiled details of a new service called PlayStation Now at CES 2014.<\/p>\n
PlayStation Now allows users to stream games from the PlayStation 3 library using Gaikai\u2019s cloud technology, which Sony acquired back in July 2012.<\/p>\n
Games can be streamed to PS4 and PS3 systems, with PlayStation Vita and BRAVIA TV support coming later in 2014. Sony said the service will eventually be expanded to multiple Internet connected devices.<\/p>\n
While this sounds like an interesting solution to the backwards compatibility issues of the PS4, being a cloud-based streaming game service, it will not be particularly feasible for the majority of South African gamers.<\/p>\n
The service will launch first in North America with a beta program in January and a full roll-out later in 2014. PAL territory launch is not confirmed.<\/p>\n
“When it comes to broadband provision, Europe is a considerably more complex region, with a huge number of different providers and varying connection speeds from country to country. In short, we need a little more time to ensure a smooth and successful roll-out,” said Sony.<\/p>\n
