Microsoft’s official @XboxSupport account was hacked and taken over for about 3 hours on Saturday, 11 January 2014.<\/p>\n

The culprits were the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) – a group of hackers that seeks to keep people aware of the civil war raging in that country by taking over prominent websites and posting their anti-war messages.<\/p>\n

Microsoft has since regained control of its account, but someone in marketing should probably be given a lesson in choosing a secure password.<\/p>\n

SEA claims:<\/p>\n

A Microsoft employee wanted to make his password more stronger, so he changed it from \u201cMicrosoft2\u2033 to \u201cMicrosoft3\u2033 #Happened #SEA<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A number of prominent South African websites also fell victim of SEA<\/a> back in September, including MyBroadband and NAG.<\/p>\n
