For every story publicizing the positive effects of video games<\/a>, there are hundreds berating our favourite pastime, accusing it of destroying society, and eating away at the very fabric that binds a moral civilisation. etc. etc.<\/p>\n

Well, those mainstream press guys over in muddy old England are at it again. This time The Lancashire Evening Post<\/a> has run a story entitled “Gaming addiction grips youngsters.” lolsigh. <\/p>\n

It opens with this classic line: “A schoolboy today told of his torment after becoming dangerously-addicted to computer games.”<\/p>\n

Apparently The Evening Post has found that a troubling number of youths are seeking professional help “<\/em>after becoming hooked on the fantasy world of console games.<\/em>” <\/p>\n

An unnamed “expert” warned that two hours of game time produced “the same high as taking a line of cocaine.” Seriously, I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried. <\/p>\n

The article goes on, citing a number of stats which warn of the perils of video games, and how children have become victims, even quoting one kid who said “It was like it was a demon that had got inside my brain and I just couldn’t stop.”<\/p>\n

One regretful mom described buying her son his first game (Call of Duty) as equivalent to buying him his “first shot of whisky.”<\/p>\n

I decided to get in touch with resident MyGaming forum user Maplassie, a self confessed Call of Duty 4 addict. When asked if he thought that he had an unhealthy gaming addiction, he said “Ja, ‘cause check, when I had no DSL for 2 weeks, it sucked.” <\/p>\n
