{"id":61957,"date":"2014-02-15T09:59:09","date_gmt":"2014-02-15T07:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=61957"},"modified":"2014-02-15T11:41:02","modified_gmt":"2014-02-15T09:41:02","slug":"online-trolls-are-sadists-and-psychopaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/61957-online-trolls-are-sadists-and-psychopaths","title":{"rendered":"Online trolls are sadists and psychopaths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A research report titled \u201c<a title=\"Trolls just want to have fun\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0191886914000324\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Trolls just want to have fun<\/strong><\/a>\u201d found that that there is a strong relationship between online trolls and sadism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism.<\/p>\n<p>Two online studies found that there is a strong positive association among \u201conline commenting frequency, trolling enjoyment, and troll identity, pointing to a common construct underlying the measures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth studies revealed similar patterns of relations between trolling and the Dark Tetrad of personality: trolling correlated positively with sadism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism,\u201d the report stated.<\/p>\n<p>The study further found that of all personality measures, sadism showed the most robust associations with trolling and, importantly, the relationship was specific to trolling behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnjoyment of other online activities, such as chatting and debating, was unrelated to sadism.
