{"id":62674,"date":"2014-03-18T17:28:20","date_gmt":"2014-03-18T15:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=62674"},"modified":"2014-03-18T17:32:47","modified_gmt":"2014-03-18T15:32:47","slug":"simcity-offline-mode-patch-goes-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/62674-simcity-offline-mode-patch-goes-live","title":{"rendered":"SimCity offline mode patch goes live"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Electronic Arts announced on their <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.ea.com\/eaforum\/posts\/list\/0\/10023460.page\" target=\"_blank\">forum\u00a0<\/a>that SimCity&#8217;s Update 10 &#8211; a patch that allows for <strong>offline play<\/strong> &#8211; will be rolled out on 18 March.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This comes a year after the game launched in March 2013, follows\u00a0<a title=\"Did EA lie? SimCity getting offline mode and modding\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/news\/61411-did-ea-lie-simcity-getting-offline-mode-and-modding.html\">much controversy<\/a> around the always-online requirement of the game, leading Maxis to cave in and <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/news\/61438-maxis-explains-simcity-offline-complexity.html\">explain themselves and the complexit<\/a>y of overhauling SimCity for offline play, back in January 2014.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The short version is that Maxis claims it was a lot of work modify the core game system elements, removing them from server-side processing and patching them into the client-side portion of the game.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The instability of SimCity&#8217;s servers was one of the lowlights of the 2013 for gamers, and the offline play option was long overdue according to critics.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Will you be playing more SimCity now that the offline option is available?
