Spit, hiss, etc. With that out the way then, let’s take our own tour of duty through the five-piece Resurgence Map Pack.

Strike and Vacant are, of course, reprising their Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare titles as “Best Headquarters Maps, Like, Ever”. They’re pretty much exactly the same as before, but if you’re some sort of erstwhile counterculture luddite and missed them the first time around, here’s the intel. Strike is a sizeable desert-urban warren, with loads of long- and mid-range shooty shooty bang bang, and a couple of intersection hotboxes for cheap crossfire and opportunistic grenade tosses.

Vacant is a clump of shabby, somewhat overgrown Russian offices, with short, tight corridors promising flashbang QCB potential and a central garden for people who think nobody will catch them setting up camp there. Outside, a bunch of shipping containers provides convenient meat packing space, while a few corners give long sights on the adjoining warehouse. Wouldn’t look entirely out of place in Gears of War, actually.

First up of the new maps then, and it’s Fuel – a network of industrial buildings that kinda looks like bits of Scrapyard, Derail, and Sub-Base were chucked onto some terrain and covered with four hundred tons of sand. Some window and rooftop elevation with long ranges should keep career snipers busy, especially with that impossible-to-avoid-crossing courtyard just in front of them.

Elsewhere, Trailer Park comprises narrow paths-o’-death, chokepoints, and mobile home camping spots, and is generally a total massacre in any game mode with the sort of spawn-kill-die-repeat gameplay that rarely turns up anything like a real killstreak. I can totally see this getting voted down consistently, because it’s far too much fun and we can’t be having any of that.

Finally, there’s Carnival, also easily the best of the lot. There’s simply nothing else like this in the map roster, with its crowded, somewhat convoluted layout and strangely creepy funhouse props looking like nothing so much as a Left 4 Dead set. Most remarkable, however, is that the garish, haphazard colouring makes for an almost environmental camouflage, marking this one of the killing floor of choice for wannabe Predators.

Its possibly unreasonable price tag notwithstanding, it’s hard to not recommend this map pack to any dedicated Modern Warfare 2 mainliner. Sure, recycling two old maps is a bit of a gip, but hey, they’re still great maps. The three new maps are the exactly same kind of high quality stuff we’d expect from a premier class multiplayer FPS, and if nothing else, it’s a happy change of scenery from Terminal. If you’re not bothered about paying for DLC, there’s no good reason you shouldn’t buy this immediately.

Discuss the Resurgence Pack in the forums

[8

post-6317","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-reviews
["GET
