Watch Dogs lead programmer Francis Boivin has promised the game will not only look good on next-gen consoles, but maintain high-frame rates too.<\/p>\n
Boivin said that this would be achieved by using\u00a0subpixel morphological anti-aliasing (SMAA) for both the Xbox One and PS4 versions.<\/p>\n
“Each frame, a custom SMAA filter is applied on the image. On top of that, we smooth the image even more by using a temporal solution; that is, by re-projecting each pixel to its position in the previous frame and by letting each go through a set of heuristics tailored for the game, we\u2019re able to further reduce visible aliasing,” he said.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0PC version of the game will use TXAA, or temporal anti-aliasing, an Nvidia-exclusive feature. While SMAA is inferior, it\u2019s still one of the best anti-aliasing solutions available today.<\/p>\n
In English – it sounds like Ubisoft are pulling out a lot of technological advances to make sure the game looks as good as they can get it.<\/p>\n
Ubisoft\u00a0senior producer Dominic Guay also added his voice to the fray, stating that frame rates would not be “compromised” in the game either, adding that this was important for smooth gameplay and controls.<\/p>\n
Watch Dogs has recently come under attack from fans, saying the game would be downgraded\u00a0graphically before release, following a story trailer that was released in March<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ubisoft countered this by releasing a new game trailer, and a video of what the game will look like on a high-end PC (which we have included below).<\/p>\n
