Dark Souls has been linked to the\u00a0stabbing to death of a teacher by a 15-year-old boy in the UK, after it was discovered he was “obsessed” with From Software’s title.<\/p>\n
The Daily Mail<\/a>\u00a0reported that the boy, whose name was withheld, was arrested after killing his 61-year-old Spanish teacher, Ann Maguire, in front of his classmates.<\/p>\n The newspaper also felt it necessary to mention that he posted comments about Grand Theft Auto, was a member of gaming community Achievement Hunter, and had been described as a depressed introvert who spent long periods of time online playing video games.<\/p>\n The chairman of the\u00a0Association for UK Interactive Entertainment, Andy Payne, has hit back at the report, stating that there is no evidence suggesting video games are to blame.<\/p>\n “From their report, The Daily Mail cite drink, drugs, and bullying to be factors in the life of the 15-year-old boy accused of the killing. It must also be pointed out that these are observations and allegations attributed to fellow classmates of the accused,” said Payne.<\/p>\n “There is, however, no evidence that links video games with violence, no matter what publications such as The Daily Mail may infer.”<\/p>\n This is not the first time Dark Souls has been linked to a murder in recent times, with “Craigslist killer” Miranda Barbour’s cult-murders also blamed on the game<\/a>.<\/p>\n
